Guided tour to Uranostind and Falketind

Posted on by

Tyinholmen offers guided tours to two of Jotunheimen's most spectacular peaks, Falketind (2067 m) and Uranostind (2157 m). Both tours go over glaciers, and require you to be motivated for a long hike and in generally good shape. The reward is a fantastic hiking experience and fabulous views from the top.

The tour starts and ends at Tyinholmen høyfjellsstuer, the natural starting point for climbing these legendary 2000-metre peaks.

Both summit hikes last between 8 – 10 hours.

When is the tour?

From Friday 25.07 until Sunday 3.08 we are arranging daily guided tours to Uranostind or Falketind in collaboration with Jotunheimen event. We also have a trip to Uranostind on Saturday 6.9.

In addition, our partner "Bjerke opplevninger" arranges mountain hiking weekends from Tyinholmen in August and September. See more here https://www.bjerkeopplevelser.no/

How much does it cost ?

To Uranostind:

– NOK 1500 for guests staying at Tyinholmen, NOK 1650 for others

To Falketind:

- NOK 6500 for 1 person, NOK 3400 per person if two participate and they live on Tyinholmen

- NOK 6700 for 1 person, NOK 3600 per person if two participate and they do not live with us

The prices include guiding and rental of necessary equipment. For the trip to Uranostind to take place, a minimum of two people must be registered. Falketind has a section with climbing and the use of safety equipment, so on that trip there is a maximum of two participants.

How is the trip to Uranostind?

We cycle or take a car onto the construction road in Koldedalen. From here you walk in easy terrain on a marked path up to the mouth of Uradalsvannet. The river must be forded. The route is considered to be medium difficulty where you follow the road up towards the glacier on the east side of pond 1518, and into the glacier on the right side. The route goes up into the crevasse between Uranostinden and Slingsbytinden. From there in clockwise direction all the way to the top of the main peak.
It is very windy the last few meters to the cairn, so many people choose to skip the last part.

Put on sold solid mountain boots, good attire - you can experience all seasons on the trip! Remember to bring plenty of food and drink.

The trip focus on safety and a sympathetic pace and calculates about 9-10 hours up and down.

The experienced mountain guides bring along crampons, rope and necessary equipment.

How is the trip to Falketind?

We cycle or take the construction road in Koldedalen.

The organized guided tours out of Tyinholmen today follow the same route that the first climbers used in 1820, the so-called pioneer route. Today it is the recommended route, because there is a high risk of rockfalls on the "Normal route". The tour goes straight up from the end of the road in Koldedalen and onto Snøggeken (Falkebreen).

Crampons and ropes are used on the glacier. The glacier is largely clear and when looking at the wall, you can see just to the right of the lowest point on the ridge between Falketind and Østre Stølsnostind.

The ascent is relatively easy, with a combination of cleaving/climbing at grade 2/3. A safety rope must be used. The route is almost self-sufficient after the first steep ascent with several nice ledges and alternative routes along a natural line up the side. At the top of the wall there is usually a scree that must be crossed, normally without major challenges. Once up, it is easy to follow the last climb up the north ridge to the top of Falketind.

Put on sold solid mountain boots, good attire - you can experience all seasons on the trip! Remember to bring plenty of food and drink.

The trip emphasizes safety and a pleasant pace and calculates around 8 -10 hours up and down.

The experienced mountain guides bring along crampons, rope and necessary equipment.

Cycling summer on Tyinholmen

Posted on by

At Tyinholmen we want to provide good facilities for our cycling guests. With us you can wash your bike, borrow tools, charge your bike battery and lock your bike if needed. We also have bike rentals. Many people come to us because they cycle the "Milky Way", but Tyinholmen is also a natural starting point for many other cycling experiences.

The Milky Way:
The Telegraph has mentioned the 25-mile long route among the world's 20 best cycling routes. You can come to us either by boat over Bygdin or along Lake Tyinvannet with perhaps the most beautiful view of the route to Falketind and Uranostind. Read more about the Milky Way here: https://www.valdres.no/opplevelser/aktiviteter/sykling/mjolkevegen

Koldedalen: From Tyinholmen there is a 9 km long construction road into Koldedalen to the foot of Falketind. From the bike seat you can experience a spectacular high mountain landscape with an impressive view of glaciers, waterfalls, blue-green mountain lakes and several well-known 2000-metre peaks.

Tyinvannet and Kongevegen:
The cycle ride along Lake Tyinvannet (approx. 15 km) offers impressive views of the series of peaks inland towards Jotunheimen. From the Tyinkrysset junction, you can follow the Kongevegen road over Filefjell, which has recently been restored. It offers fantastic cycling conditions, especially the stretch between Kyrkjestølen and Maristuen.

"1000 meters": A very popular bike ride is to cycle the old road towards Årdal, also known as the "1000-meter road". Steep ride down, tough ride up. The road goes along the mountainside and starts at about 1000 meters above the valley. It winds in about 40 bends all the way down to the gravel road that meets highway 53, a few kilometers from the center in Øvre Årdal.

Summer in the high mountains 2025

Posted on by

In 2025, we start the summer season on 23 June. The mountain range around Tyinholmen challenges all the senses. The smell of fresh heather, the feeling of warm sun against bare skin, rain or sleet, the sound of roaring waterfalls, the taste of fresh water and the sight of majestic peaks, green mountain sides, blue glaciers, green mountain lakes, eternal snow and rich floral flora.

The summer mountains also offer adrenaline rushes on steep mountain sides, airy traverses and over cracked glaciers, a sense of accomplishment when you reach the top or cover the many kilometers, quiet hikes on marked trails, cycling or fishing. You can experience all of this from Tyinholmen.

You can choose between staying in affordable cabins, rooms or apartments. We serve home-cooked food and have all the rights. In the summer there is a road right to the door, or you can take the bus that runs during school holidays, which stops in our yard.
