Mjølkevegen - one of Norway's finest cycling adventure routes

Mjølkevegen, which is one of Norway's finest cycling adventure routes, walks into beautiful mountain and seascape between Vinstra in Gudbrandsdalen, through large parts of Valdres, to Gol in Hallingdal. The route is part of the National Cycle Route No. 5

The trip through Valdres offers Norway's largest and most active areas, such as Jotunheimvegen in the east and Stølsvidda in the west. The cycling route extends to highways with little traffic, and the combination of magnificent nature, noise and mountain air is a luxury we all can experience. The cycling trip can be combined with hiking in the mountains, swimming, fishing, boating and beautiful nature and cultural experiences - a perfect cycling holiday suitable for active families

Tyinholmen is one of several accommodations that have partnered with accommodation, dining and guidance along the cycle route. Tyinholmen is a natural stopover along the Panoramarunden (160 km) of Mjølkevegen. You can take a bike on M / S Bitihorn over Bygdin to Eidsbugarden and ride on to us. We also recommend the detour from Tyinholmen to Koldedalen in majestic nature.

Tyinholmen 125 years

In 2017 it was 125 years ago, John Opdal (returning from America) built the first Tyinholmen Hotel in 1892 at the northern end of Tyinvannet in Jotunheimen. It was soon clear that there was a basis for tourism in this part of Jotunheimen. In addition to the 20-30, Tyinholmen was expanded and capacity increased. Today, Tyinholmen is among the most traditional tourist destinations in Jotunheimen and in the anniversary year it is 5. generation descendant of John who owns Tyinholmen.

On the occasion of the 125 anniversary we serve a specially-composed anniversary menu composed of the best ingredients the mountain can offer to our guests.

In the occasion of the anniversary, a historical presentation has also been made, composed of old NRK recordings, pictures and music from Edvard Grieg. Toe a look

Tyinholmen is an optimal starting point for hiking trips to several of the most famous peaks in Jotunheimen. Falketind 2067 moh, Uranostind 2157 moh and Stønsnostind 2074 moh are popular hiking destinations and Tyinholmen is the natural starting point for ascents of the peaks. We cooperate with several mountain guides and can offer tours with emphasis on safety and sympathetic pace. The mountain season starts in early July and the season runs until the end of September.
