End of season 4 October

On 4 October we close the doors after a pleasant and hectic season. On 28 March we open the doors for next year's winter guests, while the summer season starts on Monday 23 June 2025, and you are already welcome to book your stay for 2025!

Guided tour to Falketind and Uranostind

Tyinholmen offers a guide to two of Jotunheimen's most spectacular peaks, Falketind and Uranostind. Both trips go over glaciers and require that you are motivated for a long trip and in normal good shape. The reward is a fantastic hiking experience and an adventurous view from the top.

The tour starts and ends at Tyinholmen høyfjellsstuer, the natural starting point for climbing these legendary 2000-metre peaks.

When is the tour?

In 2025, we will organize summer trips to both Uranostind and Falketind. We are also planning trips in April. We will update our pages when the program and prices for 2025 are ready, but feel free to send an email to post@tyinholmen.no already now if you are interested.

Both tours last between 8 and 10 hours. Our guests have enough time for a good breakfast before departure. Once back, dinner awaits and perhaps a fresh dip in Tyin followed by a sauna.

How much does it cost ?

The prices for 2025 have not been determined. The prices include guidance and rental of the necessary equipment. In order for the trip to Uranostind to take place, it requires that at least three people are registered. Falketind has a part with splitting and the use of safety equipment, so on that trip there are a maximum of two participants.

We will offer favorable prices for our guests at Tyinholmen.

Uranostind

We start the trip with a good breakfast on Tyinholmen before cycling or taking the car into the construction road in Koldedalen. There you walk in easy terrain on the marked path up to the oasis of Uradalsvannet. The river must be stoned. The route is considered to be moderately difficult where you follow the road up towards the glacier on the east side of Tjern 1518, and into the glacier on the right side. The route goes up into the gorge between Uranostinden and Slingsbytinden. From there clockwise all the way to the top of the main peak.
At the top you can enjoy a spectacular view of large parts of Jotunheimen. It is very windy in the last few meters to the cairn - many therefore choose to forgo the last bit.

Put on sold solid mountain boots, good attire - you can experience all seasons on the trip! Remember to bring plenty of food and drink.

The trip focus on safety and a sympathetic pace and calculates about 9-10 hours up and down.

The experienced mountain guides bring along crampons, rope and necessary equipment.

Pioneer route to Falketind

Falketind 2067 m.a.s.l

We start the trip with a good breakfast on Tyinholmen before cycling or taking the car into the construction road in Koldedalen.

The organized guide tours from Tyinholmen today follow the same route that the first climbers used in 1820. Today, it is the recommended route for those who want to climb Falketind because there is a great danger of falling rocks on the "Normal route". The tour goes straight up from Koldedalshytta at the end of the road in Koldedalen and onto Snøggeken (Falkebreen).

On the glacier, rods and ropes are used. Towards the wall you hit for the lowest point on the mountain ridge between Falketind and Østre Stølsnostind, where the snow reaches the highest on the glacier.

The ascent is relatively quick, with a combination of splitting/climbing at grade 2/3 - a safety rope must be used. The route almost gives itself after the first steep ascent with several nice shelves and alternative paths along a natural line up the side. At the top of the wall there is usually a scree that must be crossed, normally without major challenges. Once up, it's fine to follow the last climb up the north ridge to the top of Falketind.

Put on sold solid mountain boots, good attire - you can experience all seasons on the trip! Remember to bring plenty of food and drink.

The trip emphasizes safety and a pleasant pace and calculates around 8 -10 hours up and down.

The experienced mountain guides bring along crampons, rope and necessary equipment.

Cycling summer on Tyinholmen

At Tyinholmen, we want to make good arrangements for our cycling guests. With us you can wash the bike, borrow tools, charge the bike battery and lock the bike if needed. Many people come to us because they cycle the "Mjølkevegen", but Tyinholmen is also a natural starting point for many other cycling experiences.
The Milky Way: The Telegraph has mentioned the 25-mile long route among the world's 20 best cycling routes. You can come to us either by boat over Bygdin or along Lake Tyinvannet with perhaps the most beautiful view of the route to Falketind and Uranostind. Read more about the Milky Way here: https://www.valdres.no/opplevelser/aktiviteter/sykling/mjolkevegen

Koldedalen: From Tyinholmen there is a 9 km long construction road into Koldedalen to the foot of Falketind. From the bike seat you can experience a spectacular high mountain landscape with an impressive view of glaciers, waterfalls, blue-green mountain lakes and several well-known 2000-metre peaks.

Tyinvannet and Kongevegen:
The cycle ride along Tyinvannet (approx. 15 km) gives an impressive view of the series of peaks into Jotunheimen. From the Tyinkrysset you can follow Kongevegen over Filefjell, which has recently been restored and invites you to wonderful cycling conditions, especially the stretch between Kyrkjestølen and Maristuen.

"1000 meters": A very popular cycle trip is to cycle the old road towards Årdal, also known as the "1000-metre". Steep walk down, tough walk up. The road runs along the side of the mountain and starts at approximately 1000 meters above the valley. It winds for approx. 40 turns all the way down to where the dirt road meets National Road 53 a few kilometers from the center in Øvre Årdal.

Summer in the high mountains 2025

Summer in the mountain home offers unique experiences for all the senses. The smell of fresh heather, the feeling of warm sun against bare skin, rain or sleet, the sound of roaring waterfalls, the taste of fresh water and the sight of majestic peaks, green mountain sides, blue glaciers, green mountain lakes, eternal snow and rich floral flora.

Sommerfjellet also offers an adrenaline rush on steep mountain sides, airy traverses and over cracked glaciers, a feeling of mastery when the summit is reached or the many kilometers covered, quiet walks on rugged paths, cycling or fishing. You can experience all of this from Tyinholmen.

You can choose between staying in affordable cabins, rooms or apartments. We serve home-cooked food and have all rights. In the summer, there is a drive right to the door or you can take the bus that stops in our yard.
