Ready for a summit hike to Uranostind?

Tyinholmen offers fantastic top-level hiking terrain with unique skiing experiences for randonee and mountain skiing enthusiasts. This year you can participate in a tour with experienced guides  from Tyinholmen the following dates:

Palm Sunday 13 April and Monday 14 Aprill

At Easter, the guided tour goes to Jotunheimen's most beautiful peak, Uranostind. After a hearty breakfast we put on our skis right outside the cabin door and start the approach with a steady climb up towards the glacier. Before the main summit it may be a good idea to put down our skis before the summit with a spectacular view of the entire West Jotunheimen. This is followed by a long descent to Tyinholmen where a home-cooked dinner and a sauna await those who wish.

The trip is suitable for both mountain skiing and randonee. You should be in normal good shape, but first and foremost you must be motivated for a long trip in magnificent nature, estimated time 8 hours.

Price per participant is NOK 1400,- for our guests / NOK 1600,- for others. Contact us for registration and nice offers on accommodation, dining and hiking: post@tyinholmen.no

Guided tour to Uranostind and Falketind

Tyinholmen offers guided tours to two of Jotunheimen's most spectacular peaks, Falketind (2067 m) and Uranostind (2157 m). Both tours go over glaciers and require you to be motivated for long hikes and in generally good shape. The reward is a fantastic hiking experience and fabulous views from the top.

The tour starts and ends at Tyinholmen høyfjellsstuer, the natural starting point for climbing these legendary 2000-metre peaks.

We will be arranging summer trips to both Uranostind and Falketind in 2025. For winter trips – see separate article here: Skiing to Uranostind

Both summit hikes last between 8 and 10 hours. Our guests have time for a good breakfast before setting off. Once back, dinner awaits and perhaps a refreshing dip in Tyin followed by a sauna.

When is the tour?

From Friday 25.07 until Sunday 3.08 we are arranging daily guided tours to Uranostind or Falketind. Our partner Bjerke oplevninger is arranging summit tour weekends in August and September. See more here https://www.bjerkeopplevelser.no/

How much does it cost ?

To Uranostind:
– NOK 1500 for guests staying at Tyinholmen, NOK 1650 for others
To Falketind:
- NOK 6500 for 1 person, NOK 3400 per person if two participate and they live on Tyinholmen
- NOK 6700 for 1 person, NOK 3600 per person if two participate and they do not live with us

The prices include guiding and rental of necessary equipment. For the trip to Uranostind to take place, a minimum of two people must be registered. Falketind has a section with climbing and the use of safety equipment, so on that trip there is a maximum of two participants.

How is the trip to Uranostind?

We start the trip with a good breakfast on Tyinholmen before cycling or taking the car into the construction road in Koldedalen. There you walk in easy terrain on the marked path up to the oasis of Uradalsvannet. The river must be stoned. The route is considered to be moderately difficult where you follow the road up towards the glacier on the east side of Tjern 1518, and into the glacier on the right side. The route goes up into the gorge between Uranostinden and Slingsbytinden. From there clockwise all the way to the top of the main peak.
At the top you can enjoy a spectacular view of large parts of Jotunheimen. It is very windy in the last few meters to the cairn - many therefore choose to forgo the last bit.

Put on sold solid mountain boots, good attire - you can experience all seasons on the trip! Remember to bring plenty of food and drink.

The trip focus on safety and a sympathetic pace and calculates about 9-10 hours up and down.

The experienced mountain guides bring along crampons, rope and necessary equipment.

How is the trip to Falketind?

We start the trip with a good breakfast on Tyinholmen before cycling or taking the car into the construction road in Koldedalen.

The organized guide tours from Tyinholmen today follow the same route that the first climbers used in 1820. Today, it is the recommended route for those who want to climb Falketind because there is a great danger of falling rocks on the "Normal route". The tour goes straight up from Koldedalshytta at the end of the road in Koldedalen and onto Snøggeken (Falkebreen).

On the glacier, rods and ropes are used. Towards the wall you hit for the lowest point on the mountain ridge between Falketind and Østre Stølsnostind, where the snow reaches the highest on the glacier.

The ascent is relatively quick, with a combination of splitting/climbing at grade 2/3 - a safety rope must be used. The route almost gives itself after the first steep ascent with several nice shelves and alternative paths along a natural line up the side. At the top of the wall there is usually a scree that must be crossed, normally without major challenges. Once up, it's fine to follow the last climb up the north ridge to the top of Falketind.

Put on sold solid mountain boots, good attire - you can experience all seasons on the trip! Remember to bring plenty of food and drink.

The trip emphasizes safety and a pleasant pace and calculates around 8 -10 hours up and down.

The experienced mountain guides bring along crampons, rope and necessary equipment.

Summer in the high mountains 2025

In 2025, we start the summer season on 23 June. The mountain range around Tyinholmen challenges all the senses. The smell of fresh heather, the feeling of warm sun against bare skin, rain or sleet, the sound of roaring waterfalls, the taste of fresh water and the sight of majestic peaks, green mountain sides, blue glaciers, green mountain lakes, eternal snow and rich floral flora.

Sommerfjellet also offers an adrenaline rush on steep mountain sides, airy traverses and over cracked glaciers, a feeling of mastery when the summit is reached or the many kilometers covered, quiet walks on rugged paths, cycling or fishing. You can experience all of this from Tyinholmen.

You can choose between staying in affordable cabins, rooms or apartments. We serve home-cooked food and have all rights. In the summer, there is a drive right to the door or you can take the bus that stops in our yard.
